On March 2 we became the proud owners of Holiday, which we shortened to Holly. She has blossomed into an amazing member of our family. About a month before adopting Holly, we went through the devastating loss of our beloved pit/boxer mix Molly. She was an amazing pup whose life was cut way too short when she got ran over by a truck at our farm. It was a tough time for all of us including our other pit Mike. They were extremely close. Like so many, we’ve come to love this particular breed, so we knew another one was a must. With all the senseless pit-bull bans in Iowa, we saw it as the perfect opportunity to provide a good home for another pit in need, especially since we live on a farm. I searched the internet relentlessly trying to find another one with the same personality as Molly. Finally after losing hope, I seen Holly’s mug on the SEPR website and sealed the deal. I couldn’t turn down those big pointy ears and as you can see from her picture, they are huge. I was told she’d eventually grow into them, but hopefully she doesn’t. People are always commenting them, and it makes her unique. At first I didn’t think I’d be able to handle all of her energy, but she adapted quickly and has turned out to be everything I wanted in a dog. Once she got over the anxiety of her new surroundings, she began to make progress and continues to learn as the days go by. She has definitely filled the void from our loss of Molly. There is never a dull or boring moment in our house. She is always ready to play, and I have yet to tire her out; however, she eventually calms down when I’ve had enough. She’s constantly on my heals everywhere I go. She can be in a deep sleep, but if she hears me leave the room, she immediately wakes up and follows me. Talk about devotion. Everyday when I come home from school, she’s on the couch eagerly looking out the window to greet me. It’s so funny because our window’s down low, so her butt’s way up in the air and her head’s down low peeking under the window. It’s hilarious, and it always brings a smile to my face when I pull in the drive way. She also does this really loud, drawn out yelp-yawn type of deal if I arrive after she’s been napping. It’s funny…you’ve got to hear it to appreciate it. When it comes to birds and squirrels, she thinks she can catch them all and boy does she put forth an effort. She’s quite the cuddler too. Every night she sleeps at the foot of my bed and usually props her head up on my leg which is comforting. When I’m at my desk doing homework, it’s normal for her to walk up and prop her head on my leg and just stare at me. I get a kick out of it. She loves rides, tug-of-war, and being the center of attention. I don’t know what it is about shoes but she is fascinated with them. It wasn’t uncommon to come home and find every shoe in the house scattered on the living room floor. She doesn’t chew them up, but just like her toys, she likes to gather them in one spot. We’ve been trying to break her of this, but we’ve resorted to keeping our shoes out of her reach. She hasn’t chewed up any furniture in the house, so it’s no biggie to occasionally have a few shoes out of place. It’s been so thrilling to watch her personality develop over the past few months. She has met all my expectations of a fun, loving, and loyal dog. Overall, we’re grateful for organizations like SEPR, and we appreciate all their hard work and for bringing Holly into our lives. Thanks SEPR.

<![CDATA[Handsome Chap's happy family!]]>Mon, 09 Apr 2012 16:01:00 -0800http://pitrescue.weebly.com/1/post/2012/04/handsome-chaps-happy-family.htmlPicture
We welcomed Chap into our home "officially" on March 10th, but fell in love with him after seeing his picture and story back in February. He has only been with us for a week and a half, yet he feels like he's been a part of our family all along. This shy boy is coming out of his shell and starting to let us see the "real" Chap....which is a big goof-ball!!! The latest thing to intrigue him are the squirrels in our yard. If only he could climb trees! He is also overcoming his fear of his new playmate...our 1 1/2year old son Maddox. Chap quickly learned that Maddox is a "good thing". He's kind of like an automatic food dispenser- he is always "sharing" his food during meals! ( Although, Maddox thinks Chap has to share HIS food too...mmmm kibbles! ) Chap may be shy, but he is certainly a lover! He likes to snuggle in bed, sit on our laps and give kisses! I think his foster mommy Tori nailed it when she said he doesn't have a mean bone in his soft little body! I know it was mixed emotions for Tori when she handed him over to us. It's hard not to get attached to such a sweetheart! We are so grateful that she started the process of showing him that he will be loved unconditionally and that his life is going to be better from here on out. We are excited to keep seeing his personality evolve as he settles in to his new life and becomes a more confident dog! Thanks SEPR for rescuing our sweet little Chap and making sure he gets the life he deserves!!!

<![CDATA[Charlie's Happily Ever After Update]]>Sun, 08 Apr 2012 10:08:01 -0800http://pitrescue.weebly.com/1/post/2012/04/charlies-happily-ever-after-update.htmlPicture
Happy Easter!! Charlie is doing very well. He is going about 100 mph from the minute he gets up to the time he goes to bed...he is curious about everything, very playful, and every creature is his new best friend. Even the kitties, who want nothing to do with him, but he keeps trying to love on them....they do NOT wish to have Charlie clean their ears, but he will keep loving them until they come around(that seems to be his plan anyway.)

Charlie is kenneled while we are at work, and he is fine with that as long as he has a chew toy and the radio on. Otherwise, he is with us at all times....including bedtime. Yes, he made it into our bed, and if either of us gets up during the night, Charlie can amazingly curl himself into the perfect size to take our pillow. Otherwise he snuggles up in the spot BETWEEN our pillows.

Now that it is yardwork time, Charlie spends every available minute outside *helping* Ed with landscaping. He has also learned that when Ed picks up sticks, he too picks up a stick, and gets some fun *fetch* time with daddy. Otherwise, he has his own football that he LOVES to play catch with.

Charlie also loves *bye bye* and we take him with us every chance we can. He is a perfect gentleman when meeting new people out in public, and since so many people ask about the bald patches on his back, he is a wonderful conversation starter and Bully Ambassador. He will be walking in a Light It Up Blue Autism Awareness walk on April 20th, and he looks very handsome in his Choose Blue T-shirt!

He is such a sweet, goofy, funny boy and we just love him like crazy. He makes us laugh everyday, and what a great addition he is to our family. Thank you for taking such good care of our beautiful boy until we were able to find him! ♥

<![CDATA[Flash saves the day again..... happily ever after!]]>Fri, 30 Mar 2012 19:51:37 -0800http://pitrescue.weebly.com/1/post/2012/03/flash-saves-the-day-again-happily-ever-after.htmlPicture
We adopted Flash on January 29th, 2012. Immediately
we fell in love. We both tell each other every day saying how much we can’t wait to get home to see “out little boy.” He’s completely changed our lives and in the best way possible. To say we love Flash just isn’t enough. He’s a very
happy boy and a very lazy boy. His two favorite things to do is lay on the couch or be outside and we’re more than happy to make him happy. Flash stays by our side at all times. If we walk to the bathroom he’s right at the door. If we go to change clothes he’s right there watching. Haha! He opens up more to us every day and we love it. We both get a kick out of how curious he is about everything. We’re hoping to get into a house soon so Flash has his own backyard
to play in anytime he wants. And hopefully someday we’ll be able to adopt a playmate for Flash from Sioux Empire Pit Rescue again. Thank you SEPR for bringing our family together!

<![CDATA[Cricket Update.. a year after being adopted!!!]]>Thu, 08 Mar 2012 18:58:15 -0800http://pitrescue.weebly.com/1/post/2012/03/cricket-update-a-year-after-being-adopted.htmlPicture
Hey everybody…Cricket here! It’s been over a year since the great people at SEPR saved my from my horrible living situation and took me into foster care. But even better, it’s been almost a year since I found my furever home, so I figured an update was in order.

Even though I’ve never heard her voice or heard her call my name, I still know my momma and love her very much. I think she loves me even more. As you all remember, I am deaf and my mom is SO patient with me. After all this time, we are finally able to communicate. I think it’s funny that she still talks to me because I can’t hear, but I do appreciate the attention. I pretty much know what she wants me to do and she has signs for me to understand her. I know what she means when she does these funny things with her hands. One way means sit, another stay. I know others like potty, food, relax/enough, and when I’m testing her patience. And believe me, I like to test them. I like to be awnry and naughty at times, but no matter how awnry I get, she still gives me hugs and kisses after she lets me know I was naughty. I can’t get enough of her either…I always have to touch, cuddle, or lick her. She won’t admit it, but she loves my pittie kisses. Every morning, I wake her up by snuggling up to her and our favorite thing to do is nap together.

At my house, I get spoiled. Mom gets me so many toys, even when she knows I’m going to destroy them in minutes. My personal record is about four minutes. We learned a while back that I have a sensitive tummy, so she was nice and got me special food and treats that I take. We also found out that I have allergies, so my mom is super nice and sneaky because puts my pills in this special food and I think it is GREAT!!! I can’t get enough. She even got me special bones to chew on in my crate while she is away, so I don’t get so bored. She’s the best! We go for walks all the time and she even bought my some really cool clothes to wear outside, so I don’t get too cold. Coming from California, I’m still getting used to all the snow. Mom even lets me have sleepovers. We’ve had Tux, Carter, and Perrywinkle over. I have a few friends in the neighborhood, too that I get to hang out with. I like to play with others a lot. Sometimes she has to remind me of my manners and to settle down.

I just wanted to let you all know how I’m doing and let you know that I am SO happy here. I couldn’t ask for a better mom and I wish all the other dogs that SEPR helps get just as good of a home. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for helping me find my mom…I know she is committed to helping other dogs to find their moms/dads/families, too.

<![CDATA[Abbie girl gets her perfect family!]]>Mon, 09 Jan 2012 18:10:52 -0800http://pitrescue.weebly.com/1/post/2012/01/abbie-girl-gets-her-perfect-family.htmlPicture
Abbie joined our family on September 17th and has been an amazing addition to our family ever sense. She is so loveable and just wants to make us happy. She has a big brother Marley who she loves being around and trying to convince him to play. She has really brought the pup back in Marley. They are great company for each other as we are at work even though we are quite sure they sleep the entire day in the front window waiting for us to return home. Abbie has learned to sit, stay, shake, kiss and fetch all in this short amount of time and she loves to show that off! She defiantly still has puppy in her and forgets her manners at times as we are still teaching her that when people come to visit they don’t need her to jump on them. Abbie is always by our side and when she isn’t we wonder what she is up to, most of the time she is just sitting in the front window taking a little nap. We did just find out a few weeks ago that she really enjoys playing chase in the backyard with Marley in the snow. She came from wonderful foster parents Jim and Terie who took wonderful care of her. She is the biggest sweetheart and we don’t know what we would do without her so I can only imagine that they miss her as much as we would. We are so thankful that we found such a sweetheart for a dog and we should have known that by the cute little heart on the side of her face!

One year and two days ago we brought CJ home with open arms... and today he is doing great and we very happy we have him in our home and in our lives. We have got thru the nights of snoring thanks to a little help from Mr. ear plugs and are always welcomed in the morning with a big wet kiss. We all love him dearly and very glad we met him at the adoption days at Petco. Thank you so much for letting us take him home.

<![CDATA[Bozzly found his perfect home!!!]]>Tue, 20 Dec 2011 17:50:07 -0800http://pitrescue.weebly.com/1/post/2011/12/bozzly-found-his-perfect-home.htmlPicture
From Bozzly: I can't remember how long I've been here but not long in dog years. I love my new home and taking my new friend for long walks. I think she says she takes me for a walk but we both know the real story. I tolerate her MANY cats and some I actually like quite a bit. My new friend is a busy lady going from one task to another. I tag along wherever she goes, just in case I can help with something. ;). I have learned that if I stick close to her side I get a lot of hugs and she says I give great hugs too. I try my best! I am a lot better at sharing love by laying very close to my housemate while she sits on the floor reading or working puzzles. I also like to rest my head in her lap which she seems to like a lot. We have come to an agreement about who gets closest to the fireplace. We take turns. I am pretty fond of the fire place as it is so cozy. My friend likes it too and we have shared a lot of time enjoying the warmth of the fire. I am a good house dog and very well trained if I must say so myself but the lady of the house would certainly agree. She tells everybody how good I am! She will also tell you I am her Christmas present.
One of the best she has or will ever get.

Bye now. Thanks for taking care of me until I found my forever home!!!
