Bobbi came to us at about 40 pounds, and we just thought she was going to be on the small side. Little did we know, she was still just a pup, and now she weighs 60 pounds. I have to say, I always thought our other pits were way nice, but this girl takes the cake. The pictures attached are her 1. with one of her toys and her brown fuzzy blanky 2. Nap time with Riley after a hard weekend at state fair 3. another snooze after a day of fishing on the boat. As you can probably tell, she goes every where with us. We absolutely love her!!! Thanks so much, and talk to you later! ~Tamora C

When I started looking through petfinder for a dog, we weren't even sure of our timeline for adopting a new family member. Then I ran across a posting by SEPR and things started rolling right along :) We looked at SEPR's website almost daily and really got serious about when to head up to SD to meet all the dogs. SEPR had guessed that Max would really match up with us, so on August 6th we went to meet all the pups. Long story short, we took home Max that day :) Max is doing so well here at his forever home. It's getting easier every day. He's so much fun. We did the doggy shut down for the 2 weeks and No Free Lunch as well. He picked up on the rules so quickly. We knew he was getting comfortable with us when Jon was getting ready for work one morning and Max was bored so he went in his crate on his own. He's always happy to see me when I come home at lunch to let him out. We were unsure about him and the kitties, but now he just avoids them and gives them plenty of space. He's moved on from wanting to chase and seems more curious now than anything else. One day he managed to snag his gentle leader from the small doggy paraphernalia basket I have on top of the crate and the little monster chewed part of the plastic clip. It's still functioning, thank god! Lesson learned :) At first, Dork-a-dog (one of his many nicknames) hadn't learned (or cared?) that frogs pee on you when you bite them. We usually got him away from them in time, but he's so quick!! He would drool and lick his chops after he'd dropped the poor frog. Max is so smart- he's learned off, drop, heel. and leave it ( a MUST with the kitties), and also brings his rope bone and kong to us when we play. Every time he gets out of his crate he grabs a toy and prances around the house with it, just one of his funny routines that make us glad to have him in our lives. He's so spoiled that he has a bed in his crate, the living room and in the shop. He's putting a little weight on and is filling out to be an even more handsome boy. He runs the property with us everyday and when the weather is good, Jon hops on his little motorcycle and Max runs with him for a mile or two. It really wears him out! After the doggy shut down, we started introducing him to our friends and neighbors, They have all LOVED him and tell us how good looking and well behaved he is. He has met 2 other dogs and he walks well with them, so we are taking things slow and hoping he makes some doggy friends to keep him social. Max makes us laugh every day, he loves to roughhouse with Jon and go out to the garden with me. He's basically happy as long as he's along for the ride (even if the ride is only from the mailbox to the garage) and he's so deserving of a good life after how his started out. Thank you SEPR for helping us find our goofy, lovey, laid back Max. Jon and Des~
I brought Jaya, formerly Jewell, home as a foster last spring. She was happy to have that painful leg removed. The first thing is she fit in with the rest of the pack quickly. Everyone liked her. She wrestles with Monster (lil one), she will play tug o war with Foxxy (red), and follows Chance (blonde) around the backyard for the rest of the day. They all pile into the car, Foxxy and Jaya will share a window. They do everything together. The pack chose her.
My thoughts was she was missing a leg. Why would anyone want this funny looking dog compared to the four legged beauties Sioux Empire Pit Rescue has? I named her Jaya because it means Victory. She has past exceeded my expectations. She fits in my lap better then any other 60 lb dog. She is a clown and comedian. I enjoy her bear like growl when she plays. And those floppy ears I can't stop laughing at. I've never had a dog that drools so much (down the side of my car). Grown to appreciate the sloppy kisses, the ones from my chin to my forehead. And she is so appreciative for a good neck scratch. We are so happy to keep her in the our family.
Thank you SEPR. Amanda R ~

Not sure what to say with this, but Scooby is awesome. I picked him up in February 2011 when I was off work due to a surgery. It was just me at home except every other weekend when my 5 year old son was here. Scooby and I had a long ride back from Sioux Falls to Bloomfield, Nebraska. We stopped in Yankton to pick up my son Ryan. When he saw Scooby in car he was so excited, as was Scooby. They were best friends from that point. That nite they fell asleep together on the couch. Ryan went back to his moms on Sunday and Scooby was left with me. Scooby isn't much of a cold or snow dog lol. He is a big lover. He enjoys everyone that comes over to visit us... my neighbors like him as well. I have since that time been granted custody of my son Ryan. That was great for me - except now Scooby doesn't sleep with me any more. Every night we walk to Ryan's bedroom to read a story and Scooby is on our heals, when I get done reading the book Scooby jumps into bed. Those two have been almost inseparable. We go for rides in the car and pickup and Scooby loves it. We run and play in back yard a lot chasing his toys when I throw them. When people come over I tell them that he is one of those vicious pit bulls as he is licking them and all excited to see them...they can't believe it. He is always excited to see people and can't wait for us to get home from school and work. He loves to be petted all the time. We are so glad to have him in our lives. Family pictures are coming soon and he will be right there in the front. We are so happy to have him and many thanks to SEPR for letting us adopt him. My daughter is also panning on her senior pictures with him - we couldn't have asked for a better dog. We hope we have many many years together.

Christmas Day 2010 was even more special to me than most. That was the day Savanah came into my home and into my life; my first dog ever. I remember how shy she was at the time and it broke my heart to see her stare at the door after the ladies left her there. I was able to tempt her back to the living room with some treats and we began getting to know each other.
Now almost 9 months later, we have become so close and it's amazing how she has come out of her shell. Savannah follows me everywhere and just wants to be with me all the time. And I find that as I'm driving home from work, I can't wait to see her. When I walk in the door, she comes running, tail wagging like crazy and making the cutest little whimper noises because she is so excited to see me. What an awesome feeling! Savannah loves to go for walks, lay in the sun and to just sit outside watching what's going on in the neighborhood. She loves meeting people and other dogs when we're out and has even met a couple dog buddies that she can wrestle with. She loves car rides, although she doesn't stick her head out the window like most dogs (which is fine with me!). We've even found that sometimes she gets special treats when we go to a drive up window!
At first I had a couple of family members who were a little apprehensive of me adopting a pit bull. But Savannah loves to go visiting and it didn't take long for her to win them over with her calm and laid back demeanor. She's been great with all my nieces and nephews and everywhere we go, kids come running to pet her. She is so patient and mellow; she just sits there and lets them give her attention. I get compliments all the time on how beautiful and well-behaved she is.
It has been quite a year since Savannah and I received the best Christmas gift ever...each other. I can't imagine life without her now and I am so happy that we found each other!!! Thanks to Rachel, Robin and Stephanie for all your help and continued interest in how Savannah and I are doing together!

Hey there!! JoJo here. Mom said I better sit down for a second and let you guys know how I am doing! When I first got here this fella they call Axel, and my big brother, was not a fan of me at all ... but of course I won him over with my charm and bug eyes. Now we play and chase, he even taught me how do go up and down the stairs! He his now my personal jungle gym, I can hang from his collar and go for rides (my favorite).
Another one of my favorites is rodeo. I have become quite the avid barrel racing fan. I get to go with my mom, aunt, and grandma just about once a week to one of these. I can meet other dogs, and all the kids love to play with me. ( I think I have my own fan club) Mom even lets me ride with her sometimes!
Mom took me to the vet awhile ago just to make sure my eyes are okay, I would go cross eyed alot. Turns out they are just fine, and I can spot a fly a mile away to chase.
This business they call potty training is getting much better. I have figured out when I just stare at mom and whine she will let me out (she gets a lil annoyed i think because I always do this right when she gets in the tub at night).
I am very much a daddys girl, I love to snuggle in bed with him and watch tv at night, sometimes I even let Axel snuggle too ;) Well I better get going, flys to chase and a big brother to annoye! I will try to slow down so mom can some pictures of me, so you can see how much I have grown!

When a SEPR volunteer asked us to be foster parents, we were honored. They told us Guinness's story and asked us if we could foster him we said ok, he was going to be a lot of work, take a lot of love and was special needs. When we first brought Guinness home, he had a lot to get used to, our 2 dogs, our friends 1 dog, a cat, 2 fish tanks, a lot of traffic in and out of the house, and a ceiling. Guinny wouldn't come out of a kennel when we were in the room, he wouldn't eat out of a bowl and was very fearful of humans from being a bait dog all of his life. We started our "getting to know days" with making noise in the kitchen to get him used to household noises, and trying to get him to eat what our dogs ate, like fruits and veggies. His very first treat he took was from our friend Heather, she was making tator tot casserole and he took a tator tot from her and ate it :). That was a wonderful step in the right direction, trust. Guinness knew he found his forever home right away, he fell in love with all of our animals and came around to be the cuddly boy we know and love today. We continued to take him to Petco adoption days once a month to let him get used to different noises, people, children and different dogs. Always saying we would be able to give him to a home that would love him as much as we did. We knew we couldn't give him up when he started smiling for us! Happy dogs come from South Dakota you know ;) He has done the craziest things that we would have never in a million years would have thought he would do. Some of Guinness's favorite activities are: run around in circles doing his Tazmanian Devil routine, having to crawl on top of you to cuddle, sleep with his head on my feet in order to truly be comfortable when we sleeps, smiling, holding hands when you pet him, taking time to sniff flowers in our garden, when he gets excited he makes pig noises (lol), loves his butt spanked (he he he), chasing butterflies all over the back yard, and Guinness is famous for doing drive by lickings (he licks you and runs away). We couldn't let him go to another home after all we had done and taught one another. Being able to see him grow into the wonderful, energetic, cuddly dog we know as Guinness would never have been the same if we all weren't part of one another's lives. You always learn something from people you know and meet, animals you encounter through out your life. Guinness has taught us: Trust, Guinness has always trusted other dogs and if our dogs trust you, he will give u a chance). Humility, Guinness enjoys the things like a soft bed to lie in at night, air conditioning in the summer, heat in the winter, food twice a day, kindness from others, plush toys, bones, the things he never had growing up as a bait dog. Love, he has shown us more love in the last 1 1/2 years than we could have ever expected. Patience, with people trying to pet him, children trying to hug him, even waiting for his bowl of food to be filled :). We thought our household was complete, then we did the best thing ever, we adopted Guinness and now our household is truly complete.
Thank you SEPR and Guinness for this chance.
