Meet Delta.... herself, 3 of her puppies, and the father were dumped in a strangers yard out in the cold in North Kansas City. Luckily, the home owner quickly contacted the local rescue’s praying someone would be able to help this scared and homeless family. SEPR knows the sad reality of trying to find a rescue for 1 pit bull, let alone 5 – so we made room for all of them! Delta and Boomer are very bonded to one another and could be soul mates. They love to play with each other and will lay and cuddle together. We are positive they had to depend on each other to survive whatever their previous life might have put them through.
Miss Delta is certainly a petite little mixed breed. She is only 18" from shoulder to floor and tips the scale at a whopping 35lbs. Delta is around 2 years old and probably had been a baby making machine living a life outside on a chain. Her whole life has been turned upside down and we can tell she is grateful for her second chance. She is a cuddle bug with a rather loud snore! Wherever her foster mom goes, Delta goes. Our little black shadow. She is becoming more playful each day. Today we had zoomies around the yard in the snow for a short time and tried to entice Boomer in a game of all star wrestling. Deltas other foster brother gets her all bent out of shape when he prances around with HER wubba toy making it squeak. Just like a mother hen, she scolds him with a sharp bark.
Deltas crate is her den and many times will go and lay in it all on her own. Sometimes she needs a little reassurance that the world is a good place and she doesn't need to be so frightened of loud noises and sudden movements. Delta is picking up good manner quickly. Delta is such a good girl. She sits and waits patiently for her food and is continuing to improve with her leash manners. She is even walking well with Boomer tagging along. Delta is house and crate trained and will signal when she needs to go outside. She loves a good game of tug with Boomer or chewing on a bone. Yogurt and peanut butter frozen in her Kong provide hours of enjoyment. Delta is continuing to receive her tablets for heartworm. She enjoys lounging around, catching a few naps outside in the sun or curled up next to her foster mom on the couch. She recently spent a week in boarding with Boomer by her side. She missed her human and was able to make her way over the gate to try and find her. Baths continue to be a challenge, but with each attempt she's able to feel a bit more relaxed for a longer period of time. Delta is a somber girl that will display a playful side on occasion. It's a whole new life for her being an indoor, loved, family pet. Time heals all wounds and it will do its job with Delta as well.
Update: It is now April and with each day brings more personality out of Delta. Her favorite spot will always be right next to her human, but we know Delta is little Miss Independent too, often deciding to go curl up in a cozy spot all on her own. She has a bit of a stubborn streak in her when it comes to some obedience work and likes to play the bumper car game while out for a walk, but she always shows her ladylike manners with admiring people. She does not hesitate to give a quick bark to warn another dog that they are too close to her. With a slow introduction she will make doggy friends. She just wants to make sure they have good intentions. The neighborhood Delta lives in provides much stimulation. There are kids playing, traffic zooming past, squirrels, bunnies, and birds to watch, and of course the occasional cat that knows to stay just out of reach. Delta can be easily redirected with the sudden squirt of water or a stern ''no'' if she seems to be fixating on those pesky taunters. She enjoys the stroke of a human hand and makes friends with all two legged beings quickly. She can be a bit demanding of attention when she sees that someone else may be getting more than herself. I think we call that a ''Diva''. Delta will make a great pet for any home with her calm and polite personality. She's hoping for a home that would be welcoming to not only her, but her love, Boomer, as well.
**Delta is heart worm positive and is currently being treated with the heart guard tabs. Within months this girl should be heart worm free. Don't let this deter you from falling in love this is pocket pit bull.. she is well worth the small amount of TLC needed!**
