Eleanor ***ADOPTED***
Sex: Female (Spayed)
Age: 10 years old
Weight: 54lbs
Color: Fawn and White
Good with Dogs: Yes
Good with Cats: Yes
Aged to perfection is what this little gem is all about. Eleanor was turned in to a city shelter with a breed ban after her owners found no more use for her as a breeder. A heart of gold and enough zip to keep up with any good adventure we knew retirement for this girl did not include a shelter!
Don't let that number 10 in the age category fool you when it comes to this girl. This is the distinguished older lady who is still going on road trips, archeological expeditions, and sky diving! Once we had addressed her multiple health issues due to improper care there was no longer anything holding this girl back from being the excited, happy-to-see-everyone pup she is! Wiggle-butt is an apt name for Eleanor. Her tail doesn't swing flank to flank but it does go 4 inches non-stop! Even under anesthesia her tail never quit!! Her excitement to try to please people makes it hard for her to sit still and wait but she tries her best and has a big, goofy grin on her face the whole time!
Eleanor likes to stick close to people but is very unobtrusive about it. She's also very good about finding a comfy dog bed or section of floor to crash out on when something interesting isn't going on. She may be adventuresome but she's old enough to know when to conserve energy for more important things. She spent the first few weeks in her foster home with a preference for the floor but now that she's got her own steps up to the bed she's the first one up to snuggle in tight. Once she's settled she'll grumble a bit if you try to make her move. Key word, TRY. Hey, it's the lady's prerogative!
Eleanor started out her stay with SEPR without any leash training but in the last several months has come leaps and bounds! She loves going for walks with family and friends, setting a great example for less experienced dogs of just how the walk goes. She is kennel trained, knows sit, lay down and shake, and has a pretty decent recall. She lives with a cat who she basically ignores after one or two warnings from her foster mom, and several other dogs. After slow, controlled introductions Eleanor does amazing with her canine siblings and once she knows they'll respect her 'back off' signals she loves to do little games of chase with them or have a little wrestling session. Her foster mom LOVES that she's willing to ignore the small, snarky dog next door as well.
The only 'negative' on this amazing girl really isn't that huge of a negative but needs to be taken into consideration. Eleanor spent most of her life living in a backyard cement kennel and has a habit or two that we've been working hard to break but aren't quite there yet. Eleanor does have fairly regular pee accidents in her crate and the occasional accident around the house if things are in a bit of an upheaval. She has come a long way though and we are continuing to pursue options to help her learn she doesn't have to potty where she sleeps during the day. She'll also rather loudly let you know that the lady prefers to be OUT of her crate and with her people when they're home. And really, how could you stand to not have this sweet thing with you every second possible anyhow?
If you're looking for a friend with moderate pep and a TON of personality, look no further! Eleanor cannot wait to show you she is more than just a retired backyard breeder - she is an amazing dog with a lot of love to give!!
