Fergie SEPR's witty whirlwind of fun!! ***ADOPTED***
Sex: Female (Spayed)
Age: 2 yrs
Weight: 50-55 lbs.
Color: Brindle
Good with dogs: Some
Good with cats: Yes
Fergie comes to SEPR as a stray from SE Cedar Rapids. She is a beautiful greyhound/pit mix that has been looking for a home since last March. She takes after the sighthound side of her breed cocktail more than the pit, not just in looks (thin and leggy!) but also in mannerisms. She's a meticulous eater, not much of a chewer, has short bursts of energy and holds down the couch like a champ! However, she is ALL pit bull when it comes to kids – she loves them! She is proven as a kid’s dog and has lived the last 9 months with three young ones.
This pretty girl would make a great only dog as she loves to be the center of attention. However, she would do wonderfully with a calm, male canine friend given slow introductions. She is currently fostered with a male and a female pit bull and is learning to get along with them very well. Fergie also quickly picked up that the two dog-savvy cats in the house are friends, but she does have a pretty high prey drive and should be watched when outside (sighthound!). She is fairly easy to call off the ‘hunt’ however, if caught early. We actually recommend having a fenced yard for her to help with this.
In the last few weeks she has started a new training program and is doing extremely well. In just a week she learned hand signals for everything from sit to wait, come and lay down. She is learning to walk nicely on lead with her Gentle Leader but still gets a little distracted by all the new and exciting happenings in the neighborhood. She takes regular walks and looks really snazzy in her backpack! She’s not quite sure it’s fair she has to carry her foster mom’s ankle weights around though. But the best part about all these new manners is if she plays nice with everyone then she gets to sleep in one big doggie pile with foster mom, the other dogs AND the cats at night! Best place to be, ever! Well, besides in the car. She is always up for a nice road trip!
There is just one more thing she needs to add to her training - what it means to be part of a REAL forever family. Can someone help her out on this one? Beautiful, insanely smart, house trained, crate trained, great friend to kids and adults alike…Fergie is the all-in-one dog you’ve been looking for and she would love the chance to prove it to you!
