Who We Are

An all volunteer 501C3 rescue group in Sioux Falls South Dakota, Sioux Empires  mission is to promote responsible Pit Bull ownership, provide breed education, combat pet overpopulation, and find qualified homes for sound Pit Bull dogs in South Dakota.

Adopting a Pit bull

As for adopting a pit bull, they are wonderful dogs for the right family! Pit bulls are very intelligent and they need a structured home that will teach them how to be well mannered and socialized. Pit bulls are not a type of dog you adopt to ignore and leave on the end of a chain. Pit bulls are great in families with kids. They are rough and tumble type dogs that are not easily scared or hurt-making them a great jungle gym. Pit bulls love their owners with a heart and devotion unlike any other breed and with this kind of admiration comes great responsibility! To know the love of a pit bull is like none other and families that are responsible, committed owners know their dogs are well worth it!

We DO NOT make same sex-placements or place Pit Bulls in multiple dog homes due to the different levels of dog aggression with in the breed. We might place a Pit Bull in a home with a compatible dog of the opposite sex, but we ask our adopters to follow certain safety measures - Never leave the dogs unsupervised, always monitor roughhousing, avoid triggers that could cause conflicts such as bones, toys, etc. We also ask that the dogs we place NOT be taken to dog parks. Dogs are adopted as inside family members only!

*Pre-approval application must be filled out with home check and references required prior to any adoption. Must be over 21. SEPR does adopt out of state!

*Adoption Fee $150.00 Includes; Spay or neutering, up to date vaccinations, and micro-chipping

Can't Adopt- Foster a Dog

Do you have a soft spot in your heart for animals?  Do you want to help abandoned animals, but don't have the time or money to contribute?  Fostering may be exactly what you're looking for.  Being a foster parent to an animal is a great way to contribute to the cause.  Our rescue will provide you with all of the supplies you need for the animal (crate, collar and leash, dog bed, food, toys, and treats).  The animal will be current with all of their vaccinations and also be spay or neutered.  The rescue will give you support and training as well.  You provide your home and affection, they do the rest.  Yes, you will become attached, but if you can keep these things in mind, you can become a successful foster parent.

-You are providing a homeless animal what they need, time and attention, while they wait for a permanent home

-By fostering you can help many animals over the course of your fostering time

-You may have a foster for a day, a week, a month or more.  What a great feeling to know that because you gave the animal time at your home, you probably saved them from being euthanized in an overcrowded shelter

-You get to experience the pit bull breed and personalities

-You also gain many new friends that have the same concern you do for animals.  TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More)

Want to Help - Volunteer

Sioux Empire Pit Rescue volunteer structure is established using a network of volunteers who manage all aspects of rescue. We do not have a physical building or offices, but we maintain open daily communication via email list.

SEPR volunteers are solely responsible for the following activities: Managing daily operations of the organization, accepting dogs from  shelters, screening applications for adoption, supervising new volunteers, writing articles on pit bull plights, fundraising/writing grants, answering general email, designing graphics and printed material, organizing and attending adoption events, SEPR promo and PR (contacting media, radio shows, newspapers and other media outlets), fighting BSL, doing homechecks, web site and database management, paper work/files, adoptions and sponsor follow ups, training rescue dogs, socialization, taking pictures and writing dog’s biographies,  buying food/running errands for SEPR and the list goes on...

SEPR needs volunteers who are self-motivated, can initiate and carry out activities with little supervision, but who are aware of and in tune with SEPR’s philosophies and guidelines. SEPR volunteers operate as a group and everyone maintains team-oriented work ethic.

The best way to go about becoming a volunteer with SEPR is to fill out the sign-up form below, come meet us at one of our events and introduce yourself to our volunteers.

Sioux Empire Pit Rescue uses Martingale collar on all our dogs!

A martingale collar is a special type of dog collar  that helps a dog stay comfortable while being completely secure on their leash. A martingale collar is made with two loops. The large loop is placed around the dogs neck and adjusted to fit loosely. The leash is then clipped to the D ring on the small loop. When the dog tries to pull their head out of the collar, the tension on the leash pulls the small loop taunt, which makes the large loop smaller and tighter on the neck-- preventing escape.

When adjusted properly the dog is never choked, but the collar stays snug around the dog's neck (just behind the ears) until the pressure is released. The problem with standard buckle collars is that for the collar to be tight enough that it can't slip over the ears when pulled, it must be uncomfortably tight all the time. The martingale collar allows the dog to wear a comfortably loose collar that is only tight when it needs to be tight.

Aah Paws
is the company SEPR buys directly from and we urge your family to purchase some of these great collars as well. Keeping your pit bull safe and happy are priority one!
