There seems to be a few topics out there that need to be repeated. I know we've talked about them before, but they are important topics to me so I'm going to share them again. I think the first one is about adopting a pet from a rescue or shelter.
Here's why it's important: when you adopt you are literally saving lives. Even though you may be adopting from an organization that doesn't euthanize due to space, somewhere along the line you are making space for an animal that could be put to sleep for that very reason. Many organizations work together and network to find homeless animals shelter somewhere.
Shelter and rescue animals are there due to no fault of their own. Either a human didn't want them any longer, didn't want to take the time to train them, or unfortunately found themselves in a position to no longer care for their pet.
When you adopt, you are not supporting people that breed animals. I don't think that you have to be that in tune with the real world to know that millions of animals are destroyed each year due to over population. I can guarantee you that not another cat or dog could be born in the next 5-10 years and there would still be plenty of pets to go around. How can a breeder, that supposedly loves animals, continue reproducing knowing somewhere down the lineage, animals that they helped to produce will be abused, abandoned, neglected or destroyed?
