I came into SEPR wanting to help as many dogs as I could and Pork Chop was my first foster. I fell in love right away! He is such a pleaser and does anything asked of him. I love to walk the neighborhood and recently took up running and Pork is a perfect partner - right at my side! It really does amaze me why someone would abandon this dog a when all he wants is to be is your best friend and I am thrilled to say Pork Chop has found his forever home! ~ Natasha

August 8, 2013 Petfinder Convention
The SEPR board and volunteers spent yesterday in Sioux Falls with representatives from the Petco Foundation and Petfinder at the Adoption Options workshop. It was a great event with tons of very good information shared to all the rescue groups in attendance. Thank you to everyone who came to participate and especially thank you to the presenters who took the time to come to Sioux Falls from across the United States, our volunteers who helped make things run smoothly during planning and registration as well as our dog handlers and the fosters that took the time to bring the dogs out. Apollo has been such an amazing addition to our family :) He has the best of manners, and listens on demand! He and Jojo get along great and have many playful moments. We are overly blessed to have such a great dog with a awesome personality! You were a great rescue to work with, and did such a good job with his fostering and training. He starts his training classes at the end of the month and we know he is going to blow them away :) He does so well around other dogs and people. He gets very excited and just wants to play! We want to thank-you for adopting us Apollo who fits right in! He is so spoiled it's not even funny hehe!! Once again we are blessed to have adopted Apollo! Love, Ariel & Brandon! Jojo & Apollo too! After losing our beloved Maggie May (a miniature Sheppard/pug/terrier mix), I felt lost right away. I started the hunt for a new dog, as did my husband Matt! He came across SEPR, and was instantly drawn to Delta Dawn. Her name and pretty face just sucked us both in. My mom's name is Dawn, and our daughter is Violet Dawn. We met her and had to have her! She arrived sooooo scared to even walk through the door and jumped at any and every bang, clang, or screech from the children. But boy have times changed.....she is so warm, relaxed, fun, and cuddly! Delta can sleep through almost anything! She's even gotten used to the vacuum! If there's a bed or a spot on the couch, she's only happy pooch! We are so thankful to have her a part of our lives. Wherever our lives take us (career moves, vacations, etc), we'll have our Delta Dawn with us! Thanks!! Matt, Teresa, Violet, and Cyrus Hockett Zoey (formelyKiki) enjoying time on the boat with Tucker. She doesn't mind wearing the life jacket and would rather be in the boat than out in the water. She and Tucker enjoy barking at the birds and rabbits in the yard when at the house. She has her choice of which bedroom she gets to sleep in and usually rotates every night between the kids, but her favorite place to sleep is in ma and pa's bed. Tucker shares his chair with her, so it is now their chair and they can be found sitting on it at the same time. We are so happy Zoey came into our lives and is a wonderful addition to our family. She is doing great. Thank you for allowing us to be apart of forever home. ~ The Lopez Family. Cesar & Aluna came to our home on September 29, 2012. Our previous pup, Sydney, passed away in the spring and left us feeling very empty, without the love & companionship only a dog can provide. We’d always known we wanted to get two dogs when she was gone, but had never really considered breeds or anything further than ‘two dogs’. We took care of a few things on our bucket list that wouldn’t be as easy with multiple dogs around the house; a lot of work to the yard and a last-minute trip Europe. When we got back our search started immediately. We weren’t really pro or anti pit bull - mostly indifferent; we just wanted to do what we could with dogs that shouldn’t be separated. SEPR had two pairs of pits looking for a home that needed to come as a pair - we met those pairs at an adoption day, and after flip-flopping for the better course of the afternoon, we decided on Cesar & Aluna. Within days everything here started to feel like home again, hearing those “happy tails” hitting the walls when you get home and the thunder of the two of them coming down the stairs when someone gets home just melts our hearts. The pair claimed their sofa, and we’ve barely seen it since :-) During the few months we were without a dog, we made note of how large our house felt with just the two of us, once Cesar & Aluna joined us we stopped thinking that :-) Even though our grass will never be perfect again due to impromptu races in the backyard, the joy we get from seeing these two play makes ‘green enough’, good enough. The pair are doing great and we look forward to spending years as a happy pack ~Sara and Dean Hi, I’m Zoey (KiKi), I was adopted by my forever family on January 5, 2013. I was so excited to meet my new family. I have 4 new brothers and 2 new sisters. I like to give them kisses when they get home from school. It was a tough 13 days of shut down for me because I was used to being with Chanel and I just wanted to be with my new friend Tucker, but he had to get used to me, now Tucker and I get along great. I like to play tag with him but he is getting too old and grumpy, I ware him out. He will sit and watch me run and pretend like he’s going to play but he just take a few steps and then sits back down and continues to watch me play. We like to play tug of war with a rope and watch what’s going on outside from the stairs. I am learning to stay off the beds and furniture until invited and I like to lay on the soft mats in the kitchen while my Mom cooks, sometimes she trips over me but I do get samples of what’s being cooked for dinner. I love my Mom, I follow her everywhere she goes. I have to be near her at all times, even when it’s time for bed; I only like to sit or lay by her. I miss her when she has to travel for work and get happy and excited when she returns. I am looking forward to this summer when we can go camping and boating and swimming in the river. ~ The Lopez Family Fergie is doing great, we have had her about 2 and a half months now. Fergie was a little shy and nervous when she First came home, but she is learning to play and relax. She has come out of her shell and started to show her spunky side. She runs around the house in a burst of energy with her new buddy Tank, but can still hold the couch down with the best of them. She patiently puts up with Tanks antics, and loves to give him kisses. She loves the kitty and loves to curl up where he is sitting, even if he doesn't want her to:-) When she first came to us she compulsively licked her nose and had a big open red sore, within two weeks she stopped and her nose healed. She is walking very well on the leash, and we are still working with her on her reactive ness but she is slowly making improvements. Tank loves having a buddy to play with, and Fergie loves to curl up with him. Fergie has made big improvements since she came to us, Tank has also made improvements in his manners since she arrived. She is settling in to our life very nicely, and I am so glad we adopted her. ~Brittany and Mike Fiona has been with us for just over a year now. She is one of the happiest dogs I have seen. Her tail is always wagging and her bottom always wiggling back and forth when she is excited which is most of the time if she is awake. She has two modes sleeping or playing. It is hilarious to watch her play and she will play with anyone that will play with her. If she can't find anyone she can easily entertain herself too chasing her toys around the house or playing ball with herself out in the yard. She especially loves her big sister Lexi and her mom but will take any attention she can get. Levi has become quite the comedian as he has gotten more comfortable in his surroundings He loves being outside in the yard when it is warm out but he really does not like the cold at all. He came to us as a foster last July and then we just couldn’t let the little guy go so we adopted him in February. He is one very smart and handsome dog and has become a very well behaved young man. ~Vanessa H. SEPR is so happy and proud of alumni Miss Savannah. Her adoptive mother Leslie and Savannah tested for the Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dogs International certifications and passed both! Soon she will be able to visit hospitals, nursing homes, schools etc to help brighten people's day. And while we're at it, show the other side of the pit bull story they don't usually show on the news. Keep up all the good work SEPR alumni's! |
